I’ve just published a new piece on the Notches Blog!

For those who don’t know it, Notches is an international platform for collaborative writing on the history of sexuality—I definitely recommend subscribing to their newsletter, there’s always something worth reading.

In “Two More Weeks: The Brutality Behind Brazil’s Reproductive Politics,” I discuss how reproductive violence in Brazil is not an isolated phenomenon, but part of a longer history of medical, legal, and political decisions about who can—or cannot—give birth, and under what conditions.

The piece begins with a horrific case that took place in Brazil in 2020 to reflect on historical continuities in the relationship between medicine, the state, and the control of bodies—especially those of vulnerable girls and women.
